Tiho Brahe

Tiho Brahe (dan. Tycho Brahe; Knudstrup, 14. decembar 1546 — Prag, 24. oktobar 1601) je bio danski astronom. Studirao u Kopenhagenu, Lajpcigu, Rostoku i Augsburgu. Nakon dvadeset četiri godine astronomskih posmatranja u Danskoj, nastavio je rad u Benatki pored Praga. Tiho je bio užasnut kada je otkrio da su Alfonsinske tablice, standardni izvor za planetska kretanja, pogrešne za čitavih mesec dana, a Keplerove za nekoliko meseci. Godine 1572. Tiho je primetio novu zvezdu u sazvežđu Kasiopeja, tako sjajnu da se videla i po danu. Kasnije je utvrđeno da se radilo o supernovi. Sledeće godine objavio je knjigu De Stella Nove, punu činjenica koje su potvrdile postojanje nove zvezde, što je bilo u suprotnosti sa Aristotelovom tvrdnjom da se nebeski svod ne menja (da su zvezde nekretnice nepromenljive). Godine 1577. utvrdio je da je kometa primećena te godine pojava koja se nalazi na najmanje šest puta većem rastojanju od onog između Zemlje i Meseca, što je bio novi udarac Aristotelovoj dogmi.

Tiho Brahe umro je 1601. godine u delirijumu, ponavljajući Ne dozvolite da moj život izgleda protraćen. Kepler je služio kao njegov pomoćnik i, nakon njegove smrti, objavio njegove astronomske opservacije. Znatno je poboljšao preciznost takvih opservacija, i tako pribavio materijal na osnovu koga je Kepler potkrepio Kopernikovu teoriju o revoluciji. Kada je Kepler proširio svoje zakone izvedene za Mars i druge planete i njihove satelite, prikazao je Tihova posmatranja u obliku tablica, nazivajući ih Rudolfovim tablicama (nazvanih u čast cara Rudolfa II); pošto je u štampariji izbio požar Kepler je pobegao sa rukopisom i preselio se iz Linca u Ulm kako bi dovršio ovo delo i ispunio poslednju želju Tiha Brahea. Kepler je knjigu lično prodavao na Frankfurtskom sajmu knjiga 1627. godine.
