Lju Bang, poznatiji kao car Gao-cu (256. p. n. e. ili 247. p. n. e. – 1. jun 195. p. n. e.) bio je osnivač dinastije Han i car Kine od 202. p. n. e. do 195. p. n. e. Bio je siromašan seljak koji je došao na vlast kada se raspalo moćno carstvo Ćin.[2] U mladosti je bio vojvoda od Peha.

Rođenje i rani život uredi

U mitu o carskom Han, preci Lju Banga bili su mitski car Jao i Žuti car.[3] Mnoge drevne kineske plemićke porodice tvrdile su da potiču od Žutog cara da bi opravdale svoje pravo da vladaju.[4]

Lju Bang je rođen tokom kasnih godina perioda zaraćenih država;[1] njegovi roditelji se pamte samo kao „Lju Tajgong“ (劉太公; doslovno „stari ser Lju“) i „Lju Ao“ (劉媪; dosl. „stara gospođa Lju“).[5] Njegova porodica je bila iz Džungjanga (中陽里), distrikta Feng (丰邑), okrug Pej (沛縣) u državi Ču.[1] Prema legendi, Lju Bang je začet nakon što je Lju Ao naišla na zmaja tokom kišne oluje.[6]

Uspon na presto uredi

Posle smrti prvog kineskog cara 209. godine p. n. e. godine oficir Čen Šeng je podigao pobunu u Henanu i osnovao carstvo Ču. Njemu se pridružio Lju Bang i osvojio grad Ksiao. Uskoro je postao jedan od najvažnijih vođa pobunjenika. Pobunjenici su posle pada Ksiaoa krenuli ka prestonici dinastije Ćin. U zimu kad su se osvajanjima približili prestonici, vođe pobunjenika su pobijeni. Lju Bang je u to vreme postao važna ličnost u tadašnjoj Kini.
