Артур је започела своју каријеру на сцени 1947. Освојила је награду Тони 1966. за најбољу глумицу у мјузиклу за улогу Вере Чарлс у филму Mame. Наставила је да игра Мод Финдлеј у серијама Сви у породици (појавила се 1971–72) и Мод (1972–78), као и Дороти Зборнак у ситкому Златне девојке (1985–92). Колегинице из ситкома Златне девојке, Ру Мекланахан и Бети Вајт, коментарисале су њену смрт телефоном у епизоди Лари Кинга од 27. априла. У емисији, Мекланахан је рекла да су се она и Артур слагале заједно „као крема“. Вајт је рекла: „Знала сам да ће болети, само нисам знала да ће болети оволико.“[4]
Артур је завештала 300.000 долара Али Форнај центру, њујоршкој организацији која обезбеђује смештај за бескућнике ЛГБТ+ омладине.[5] Центар је тешко оштећен у октобру 2012. од урагана Сенди,[6] али је од тада обновљен и поново отворен.[7] Резиденција Би Артур, која је отворена 2017. године, је резиденција са 18 кревета на Менхетну за бескућнике ЛГБТ омладине којом управља Али Форнај центар.[8]
