Око 14 милиона камила је живело 2010. године, при чему су 90% биле дромедари.<ref name=dolby10 /> Дромедари који живе у данашње време су [[Списак доместикованих животиња|доместиковане животиње]] (они углавном обитавају на [[Рог Африке|Рогу Африке]], [[Сахел]]у, [[Магреб]]у, [[Средњи исток|Средњем истоку]] и [[Јужна Азија|Јужној Азији]]). Сам регион Рога има највећу концентрацију камила на свету,<ref name="Bernstein">{{harvnb|Bernstein|2009|p=56}}</ref> где дромедари сачињавају [[Номадски пасторализам|важан део локалног номадског живота]].
