Лагос је у почетку настао као [[Лука|лучки град]] који се развио на групи острва, која су спојена у данашње области са локалном управом ([[List of Lagos State local government areas by population|ЛГА]]) [[острво Лагос]], [[Ети-Оса]], [[Амуво-Одофин]] и [[Апапа]]; острва су раздвојена [[Естуар|воденим токовима]], који су део југозападног дела [[Лагошка лагуна|Лагошке лагуне]].
