Рани грчки филозофи су проучавали кретање и простор. Људи као што су [[Хесиод]] су посматрати природни свет као потомак [[Списак грчких божанстава|богова]], док су други попут Леукипа и [[Демокрит]]а сматрали да је свет састављен од беживотних атома у вртлогу. [[Анаксимандар]] је [[Дедукција|дедукцијом]] дошао до закључка да помрачења настају због пуцања прстенова небеске ватре.
