Картагина је била озлоглашена од стране својих непријатеља, да практикује жртвовање беба и деце. Модерна археолошка ископавања у бившим картагинњаским областима су пронашла гробља за децу и одојчад.{{sfn|Lancel|1994|pp=}} У једном дечјем гробљу званом Тофет отприлике 20.000 урни су закопане између 400. и 200. п. н. е., а та пракса се наставила до раних година хришћанског периода. Урне су садржавале спаљене кости новорођенчади и у неким случајевима чак кости фетуса и двогодишње деце.
