Džek Keruak[1] (engl. Jack Kerouac;[2] Louel, 12. mart 1922Sent Pitersburg, 21. oktobar 1969) bio je američki književnik[3] frankokanadskog porekla,[4][5][6] i jedan od osnivača bitničkog pokreta, često nazivan „Kraljem bitnika“.[7] Tokom svoje književne karijere pisao je romane, poeziju, eseje i manifeste.

Suočavajući se sa naglim promenama svog vremena, Keruak je imao velikih problema sa pronalaženjem svoje životne pozicije u svetu, što ga je navelo da odbaci tradicionalne vrednosti pedesetih i zajedno sa prijateljima Alenom Ginzbergom i Vilijamom Barouzom stvori bit pokret. Njegovi radovi odražavaju želju za oslobođenjem od društvenih konvencija i traženje novog smisla postojanja. Svoja iskustva sa marihuanom, amfetaminom, alkoholom, promiskuitetom, spiritualna traganja u budizmu i putovanja po Americi pretočio je u svoja književna ostvarenja, koja su velikim delom autobiografski oblikovana.[8]

Keruakovo stvaralaštvo stoji na međi između kasnog modernizma i ranog postmodernizma. Svoje knjige pisao je različitim stilovima, sa namerom da se u naraciji što vernije predstavi srž predmeta o kojima je pisao, bilo da je u pitanju bi-bap džez, putovanje, dečiji snovi, alkoholisano stanje ili nešto deseto.[9] Njegovo stvaralaštvo izvršilo je snažan uticaj na kontrakulturu i hipi pokret, kao i na muzičare poput Boba Dilana, Džima Morisona, Džona Lenona i Toma Vejtsa.[8] Osim romana „Na putu“ koji je postao kultni roman mladalačke pobune i njegovo i dan-danas najpoznatije delo, ostala ostvarenja nisu naišla na širu popularnost ni kod čitalaca ni kod kritičara.
