Највероватније се хијастички распоред први пут појавио у [[Хебрејски језик|хебрејском језику]] до [[10. век п. н. е.|10. века п. н. е.]], највише у [[Псалми]]ма и [[Књига пророка Исаије|Књизи пророка Исаије]]. У [[Антика|антици]] се није знало за хијазам. Први га помиње Хермоген, учитељ [[Говорништво|говорништва]] из [[2. век|2. века нове ере]].
