Боја и шаре су променљиве, чак и са једном одређеном популацијом, али постоје [[Регија|регионрегионалне]]алне разлике, у виду светлије и тамније жутих и жутосмеђих шара на јагуаровој кожи.

Каснија разматрања његовог рада су произвела закључак о постојању само три подврсте.
