Википедија има много правила. Понекад је прихватљиво користити здрав разум приликом уређивања. Превише стриктно држање правила може да проузрокује губитак перспективе, тако да је понекад боље игнорисати правило. Чак и ако измена коју чините крши неку специфичну формулацију неког правила, та измена ипак може бити добра измена. Исто тако, ако нешто није забрањено црно на бело, или је експлицитно дозвољено, то не значи да је добродошло у свакој ситуацији. Принцип самог правила много је важнији од самог текста правила.
