Areta Frenklin
Areta[1] Frenklin (engl. Aretha Louise Franklin, IPA: /əˈriθə/[2], Memfis, 25. mart 1942 — Detroit, 16. avgust 2018) bila je američka soul pjevačica. Kćerka je baptističkog sveštenika. U pjevanju su je od rane mladosti podučavale tadašnje zvijezde gospela kao što su Mahalija Džekson i Klara Vord. Vrhunac karijere joj je bio krajem 60-ih godina 20. vijeka. Pjesme poput „Respect“ i „Chain Of Fools“ ubrzo su postale klasika. Uprkos ličnim problemima, 1968. snimila je album „Lady Soul“ koji se prodao u milionskom tiražu. Krajem 70-ih karijera joj počinje stagnirati, ali joj uloga u filmu „Braća Bluz“ vraća staru slavu. U 80-im je snimila hitove kao što su „Freeway Of Love“ i „Who's Zooming Who“, a pjevala je i u duetu sa Džordžom Majklom i grupom Eurythmics. Nadimak joj je „Kraljica soula“, a po nekim izvorima glas joj ima raspon od četiri oktave. Englesku pjevačicu Džos Stoun mnogi smatraju njenom nasljednicom.[3] Preminula je 16. avgusta 2018. godine, posle duge borbe sa rakom pankreasa.[4]
