Gotik muzika (ili gotik rok engl. Gothic rock) je žanr rok muzike koji potiče iz kasnih 1970-ih. Potiče od pank rok/post-pank bendova. Gotik muzika počinje da se definiše kao poseban pokret u ranim 1980-im godinama. Značajni gotik rok bendovi uključuju Bauhaus, Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim i The Cure.

Pošto se dosta razlikovao u odnosu na druge žanrove alternativnog roka 1980-ih, gotik rok je uzrokovao napredak širenja gotik supkulture koja uključuje gotik klubove, gotik modu i gotik časopise.

Karakteristike

Prema muzičkom novinaru Simonu Rejnoldsu, standardna muzička djela gotik roka uključuju „šablone gitare, visoke bas linije koje su često uzurpirale melodijsku ulogu (i) taktove koji su bili ili hipnotički dirgeli ili tom-tom teški i 'tribalski'“. Rejnolds je opisao vokalni stil kao da se sastoji od "dubokih, šumnih legura Džima Morisona i Leonarda Koena". Nekoliko radnji je koristilo bubanj mašine umanjujući ritam.

Gotik rok se obično bavi mračnim temama koje se obrađuju kroz tekstove i muzičku atmosferu. Poetski senzibiliteti ovog žanra doveli su do toga da lirike gotik roka ispolje književni romantizam, morbiditet, egzistencijalizam, religiozni simbolizam ili natprirodni misticizam. Gotik rok je izdanak post-panka i, prema AllMusic-u, „uzeo je hladne sintisajzere i obrađene gitare post-panka i koristio ih za izgradnju slutnih, tužnih, često epskih zvučnih pejzaža.“ Rani gotik rok imao je introspektivu ili introspektivu. lične tekstove, ali prema AllMusic-u, „njegov poetski senzibilitet ubrzo je doveo do ukusa za književni romantizam, morbiditet, religiozni simbolizam i/ili natprirodni misticizam.“
