Srednjoevropski univerzitet

Srednjoevropski univerzitet (engl. Central European University) je privatni univerzitet akreditovan u Mađarskoj, Austriji i SAD, sa kampusima u Beču i Budimpešti. Održava visoko selektivne diplomske i preddiplomske programe u društvenim i humanističkim naukama, kao i nizak odnos studenata-profesora i međunarodno studentsko telo.[5][6][7][8] Centralno načelo misije univerziteta je promocija otvorenih društava, čime je blisko povezan sa Fondom za otvoreno društvo.[9]

Godine 1991. osnovao ga je menadžer hedž-fonda, politički aktivista i milijarder-filantrop Džordž Soros, koji mu je obezbedio zadužbinu od 880 miliona dolara, čime je postao jedan od najbogatijih u Evropi, posebno po studentu.[1][10] Osnovan je u srednjoj Evropi zbog uočene potrebe za nezavisnim i međunarodnim univerzitetom za region, u svetlu pada komunističkog bloka i prateće demokratizacije.[11][12]
