Fransis Džejms Čajld

Fransis Džejms Čajld (engl. Francis James Child; Boston, 1. februar 1825 — Boston, 11. septembar 1896) je bio američki naučnik, prosvetitelj i folklorista, danas najpoznatiji po zbirci narodnih pesama koje je sakupio, poznatoj kao Čajldove balade. Čajld je bio Bojlstonov profesor retorike i oratorstva na Univerzitetu Harvard, gde je izdavao značajna dela engleske poezije. 1876. je imenovan za harvardskog prvog profesora engleskog jezika, što je položaj koji mu je omogućio da se fokusira na akademski istraživački rad. U ovom periodu je počeo rad na Čajldovim baladama.

Čajldove balade su objavljene u pet tomova između 1882. i 1898. One predstavljaju značajan doprinos studiji narodne muzike na engleskom jeziku.[1]
