Dejvisov moreuz
Dejvisov prolaz (engl. Davis Strait, fr. Détroit de Davis) je morska površina između Grenlanda i Bafinovog ostrva. Dubina vode iznosi 1-2 km. Prolaz je dobio ime po engleskom istraživaču Džonu Dejvisu (John Davis, 1550-1605) koji je istraživao to područje u potrazi za Sjeverozapadnim prolazom (engl. Northwest Passage).[1][2][3][4] Prolaz je poznat po svojim visokim plimama, koje dostižu visinu od 10-20 metara.
Opseg
urediMeđunarodna hidrografska organizacija definiše granice Dejvisovog moreuza na sledeći način:[5]
Na severu. Južna granica Bafinovog zaliva [paralela od 70° severno između Grenlanda i Bafinove zemlje].
Na Istoku. Jugozapadna obala Grenlanda.
Na jugu. Paralela od 60° severno između Grenlanda i Labradora.
Na Zapadu. Istočna granica Severozapadnih prolaza južno od 70° severno [istočna obala Bafinovog ostrva do Istočnog Blafa, njegov jugoistočni kraj] i Hadsonovog moreuza [linija od Istočnog Blafa, jugoistočni kraj Bafinovog ostrva (61° 53′ N 65° 57′ W / 61.883° S; 65.950° Z), do Pojnt Meridijana, zapadnog ekstrema ostrva Niži Savidž, duž obale do njegovog jugozapadnog ekstrema, a zatim linije preko do zapadnog ekstrema Rezolucionog ostrva, preko njegove jugozapadne obale do Haton Hidlanda, njegove južne tačke, zatim linija do rta Čidli, Labrador (60° 24′ N 64° 26′ W / 60.400° S; 64.433° Z)].
Geologija

Pod Dejvisovim moreuzom nalaze se složene geološke karakteristike zakopanih grabena (slivova) i grebena, formiranih rasedom Ungava tokom paleogena pre od oko 45 miliona do 62 miliona godina. Proklizavanje je prenelo tektonsko kretanje ploča u Labradorskom moru u Bafinov zaliv. To je najširi moreuz na svetu.
Dubina
urediSa dubinom vode od jedne do dve hiljade metara, moreuz je znatno plići od Labradorskog mora na jugu.
Plima i oseka
urediTesnac je poznat po svojim moćnim plimama koje se kreću od 30 do 60 stopa (9,1 do 18,3 m), što je obeshrabrilo mnoge ranije istraživače.
Nafta i gas
urediAmerički geološki institut je procenio da se najmanje 13% svetskih neotkrivenih nalazišta nafte i 30% svetskih neotkrivenih gasnih džepova nalazi na Arktiku, sa morima oko Grenlanda koja potencijalno sadrže velike količine prirodnog gasa i manje količine sirove nafte i tečnog prirodnog gasa.[6][7] Ovo je navelo Grenlandskog ministra i pokrajinsko veće da ponude veliki broj priobalskih koncesija za potencijalno vađenje ugljovodonika (nafta i gas). Najveće koncesione površine nalaze se u zapadnim morima Grenlanda, prvenstveno u Dejvisovom moreuzu i Bafinovom zalivu, kao i nekoliko manjih koncesija u Grenlandskom moru na istoku.[8][9][10][11]
