Kapela (zvezda)
Kapela (α Aurigae, α Aur, Alpha Aur) je najsjajnija zvezda u sazvežđu Kočijaša, šesta je najsjajnija zvezda na nebu i treća najsjajnija zvezda severnog neba posle Arktura i Vege. Poput našeg Sunca, Kapela je žuta zvezda. To je najsjajnija žuta zvezda na nebu – mnogo veća i sjajnija od Sunca, ali i mnogo dalja – oko 42 svetlosne godine za razliku od Sunčevih 8 svetlosnih minuta.[29]

Dvostruka dvojna zvezda uredi
Da se zapravo radi o dva para dvojnih zvezda prvi su otkrili Džon Anderson i Frensis Piz 1919. godine u opservatoriji Maunt Vilson. To je bilo prvo interferometrijsko merenje nekog objekta van Sunčevog sistema.
Kapela predstavlja sistem od četiri zvezde u dva binarna para. Prvi par se sastoji od dve velike zvezde spektralne klase G. Prva zvezda ovog para – Kapela A, ima površinsku temperaturu od približno 4900 K, poluprečnik 12 puta veći od Sunčevog, masu približno 2,7 puta veću od Sunčeve i sjajnost 79 puta veću. Druga zvezda – Kapela B ima površinsku temperaturu od 5700 K. U poređenju sa Suncem ima 9 puta veći poluprečnik, 2,6 puta veću masu i 78 puta veću sjajnost. Pretpostavlja se da su ove zvezde u fazi hlađenja i širenja pri transformaciji u crvenog džina.[30]
Rastojanje između dve zvezde iznosi 100 miliona km, a jedna oko druge kruže sa periodom od 104 dana. One su nekada verovatno, poput Vege, bile spektralne klase A; sada su u procesu širenja, hlađenja i povećanja sjajnosti, tako da će se kroz milion godina preobraziti u crvene džinove. Kapela je izvor H-zraka koji verovatno nastaju usled površinske magnetne aktivnosti, slične onoj koja postoji na površini Sunca..[31]
Drugi par – Kapela H, udaljen je oko 10.000 astronomskih jedinica od prvog i sastoji se od dva mala i relativno hladna crvena patuljka klase M.
Vidljivost uredi
Kapela je najsjajnija zvezda u sazvežđu Kočijaša i šesta je najsjajnija zvezda na celom nebu. Ona je bliža severnom nebeskom polu od bilo koje zvezde prve magnitude. Zbog svoje velike severne deklinacije (δ = +45° 57’) na srednjim i višim geografskim širinama vidljiva je tokom cele godine. Pre oko 200.000 godina Kapela je bila najsjajnija zvezda na nebu. Pre tog perioda najsjajniji je bio Aldebaran, a kako su ove dve zvezde bile blizu jedna drugoj, tada su one predstavljale zvezdu Severnjaču.
