Majkl Sorkin

Majkl Dejvid Sorkin (engl. Michael David Sorkin; Vašington, 2. avgust 1948 — Njujork, 26. mart 2020) bio je američki arhitekta, urbanista, pisac i autor velikog broja knjiga arhitektonske teorije i urbanog planiranja. Rodio se u Vašingtonu ali je živeo i radio u Njujorku. [1] Važio je za jedinstven provokativan i polemički glas u savremenoj kulturi i dizajnu urbanih mesta na prelazu u XXI vek. [2] Bio je zapažen profesor u mnogim velikim arhitektonskim školama, oštar arhitektonski kritičar za novine The Village Voice i gostujući kolumnista u mnogim publikacijama. [3] Bio je direktor postdiplomskih studija za urbani dizajn na Gradskom koledžu u Njujorku (City College of New York).

Život i karijera uredi

Sorkin je bio arhitekta i urbanista čija je praksa obuhvatala dizajn, planiranje, kritiku i podučavanje.[4] 1970. godine diplomirao je na Univerzitetu u Čikagu, a potom i magistrirao arhitekturu na Tehnološkom institutu u Masačusetsu (M. Arh '74). Sorkin je takođe magistrirao i Engleski jezik na Univerzitetu Kolumbija (MA '70). [5] Bio je glavni direktor studija Majkl Sorkin, sa sedištem u Njujorku, studija svetske dizajnerske prakse sa posebnim interesovanjima za urbano planiranje, urbani dizajn i zeleni urbanizam . [3]

Sorkin je bio kritičar stambene arhitekture i radio je za novine " The Village Voice " tokom osamdesetih godina 20. veka, a autor je i mnogobrojnih članaka i knjiga na temu savremene arhitekture, dizajna, gradova i uloge demokratije u arhitekturi. [3] [6] [7] Bio je i kopredsednik Instituta za urbani dizajn (Institute for Urban Design), organizacije za obrazovanje i advokaturu, kao i potpredsednik Foruma za urbani dizajn iz Njujorka. [8]

2013. godine dobio je nagradu Design Mind od strane Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. [9]

Bio je glavni direktor studija Majkl Sorkin (Michael Sorkin Studio) i predsednik Tereforma (Terreform), neprofitne istraživačke grupe. [3]

Dana 26. marta 2020. Majkl Sorkin je preminuo usled komplikacija izazvanih koronavirusom COVID-19 . [10]

Žaleći povodom smrti Majkla Sorkina, mnogobrojni eksperti odali su počast preminulom arhitekti te posebno istakli njegovu kritičku misao i veštinu pisanja. [3]

Urbanističko planiranje uredi

Studio Majkl Sorkin u Njujorku, fokusiran je prvenstveno na profesionalnu praksu u domenu javnog, urbanog života i prostora. [11] Radio je prostorne planove u Hamburgu (Nemačka), i predložio je master planove za prestonicu Palestine u Istočnom Jerusalimu, rivu Bruklin i trg Kvins Plaza u Njujorku . [12] Njegove urbanističke studije bile su izlagane javno, a 2010. godine dobija nagradu Američke akademije umetnosti i literature u oblasti arhitekture.[13] [14] Sorkin se redovno predstavljao na regionalnim, nacionalnim i međnarodnim konferencijama, radio je kao savetnik i član žirija u brojnim odborima, uključujući konkurs za dizajn Gugenhajm muzeja u Helsinkiju (The Next Helsinki), Aga Kan fondacije za kuluturu Aga Kan nagrade za arhitekturu (Aga Khan Award for Architecture), nagrada za dizajn Krajsler (Chrysler Design Award,”Poglavlje Grada Njujorka” (The New York City Chapter) Američkog instituta za arhitekturu (American Institute of Architecture), Arhitektonska liga Njujorka (Architectural League of New York), dok je u oblasti dizajna bio kolumnista i pisac za Kor 77 (Core 77).[15] [16] [17] [18] [19]

Akademsko iskustvo uredi

Sorkin je bio predavač na nivou koledža. Bio je na poziciji profesora urbanizma i obavljao je funkciju direktora Urbanističkog instituta Bečke Akademije likovne umetnosti (Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna), u Beču od 1993. do 2000. godine. [39] [40] Bio je gostujući profesor mnogih škola, uključujući i desetogodišnju profesuru na privatnom koledžu Cooper Union u Njujorku. Sorkin je predavao u odseku 'Hyde Chair na Arhitektonskom koledžu Univerziteta Nebraske u Linkolnu (University of Nebraska–Lincoln),[41] Davenport Chair' na Školi Arhitekture Univerziteta Jejl, [42] Taubman Koledž za arhitekturu i urbanističko planiranje, gostujući profesor u odseku Elijel Sarinen, Univerziteta u Mičigenu . Bio je gostujući predavač na Arhitektonskom Univerzitetu u Londonu (Architectural Association School of Architecture), [43] na Školi za Dizajn na Harvardu, [44] na Koledžu za Arhitekturu, Umetnost i Planiranje Kornel Univerziteta [45]i td.

Književno stvaralaštvo uredi

Sorkin je imao upadljivu karijeru kao arhitektonski pisac. Pisao je o temama savremene arhitekture i urbane dinamike, uporedo sa dimenzijama životne sredine i okoline, održivosti, pedestrijanizacije (povrata ulica, trgova i drugih delova grada, pešacima), javnih prostora, urbane kulture i nasleđa modernističkih pristupa u urbanističkom planiranju. Bio je član Međunarodnog komiteta arhitektonskih kritičara (International Committee of Architectural Critic). [46]
