Apterodon
Apterodon (Apterodon — „bez krilatog zuba”) je izumrli rod placentalnih sisara iz izumrle potporodice Apterodontinae unutar izumrle parafiletske porodice Hyainailouridae, koji je u periodu od kasnog eocena do srednjeg oligocena nastanjivao područje Evrope i Afrike.[5][6][7]

Opis
urediVrste iz roda Apterodon su posjedovale snažne prednje noge slične nogama kod jazavca, sa kojima su mogle da kopaju zemlju. Zadnje noge, rep i torzo kod ovi sisara su bile slične građe kao kod vidri i perajara.[9] Za razliku od zvijeri, predstavnici ovog roda sisara su u toku svog odrastanja sporije mjenjali svoje zube, iz mliječnih u trajne zube.[10] Vrsta Apterodon macrognathus je težila između 25,7 i 35,4 kg, dok je zapremina mozga ove vrste iznosila 70 do 76 ml.[11][12]
Ponašanje i ekologija
urediVrste iz roda Apterodon su bile vodozemni, polufosorijalni sisari koji su živjeli slično kao vidre. Obitavale su uz obale mora hraneći se puževima, školjkama i rakovima.[9]
