Džozef L. Mankevic
Džozef Leo Mankevic (engl. Joseph Leo Mankiewicz; Vilks-Beri, 11. februar 1909 — Bedford, 5. februar 1993) bio je američki filmski reditelj, scenarista i producent. Najpoznatiji je kao dobitnik dva Oskara (za režiju i za scenario) za film Sve o Evi (1950).[1]

Mladost uredi
Džozef L. Mankevic je rođen u Vilks-Baru, Pensilvanija, od oca Franca Mankevica (umro 1941) i Johane Blumenau, jevrejskih emigranta iz Nemačke i Kurlandije, respektivno.[1][2][3][4][5] Pored starije sestre, Erne Mankevic Stenbak (1901–1979), imao je starijeg brata Hermana J. Mankevica (1897–1953), koji ga je doveo u Holivud da postane scenarista.[1][6][7] Herman je takođe osvojio Oskara kao koscenarista Građanina Kejn (1941).[8]
Sa četiri godine, Mankevic se preselio sa svojom porodicom u Njujork, gde je 1924. diplomirao srednju školu Stajvesant.[9] Sledio je brata na Kolumbija univerzitet, gde je diplomirao engleski jezik i pisao za Kolumbija Dajli Spejtator, a nakon što je diplomirao 1928.[10] preselio se u Berlin, gde je radio na nekoliko poslova, uključujući prevođenje filmskih međunaslova sa nemačkog na Engleski za UFA.[1][2]
Porodična istorija uredi
Džozef je bio je mlađi brat Hermana Dž. Mankijevica. Njegovi sinovi su Erik Rejnal (iz prvog braka, sa glumicom Elizabet Jang),[11] producent Kristofer Mankijević i pisac/reditelj Tom Mankijevič. On ima i ćerku Aleks Mankijevič. Njegovi nećaci uključuju pisca i filmskog stvaraoca Nika Dejvisa, reportera NBC Dateline Džoša Mankijevica i televizijsku ličnost Bena Mankijevica, koji se trenutno može videti na TCM-u. On je takođe bio ujak Franka Mankijevica, poznatog menadžera političke kampanje koji je zvanično najavio ubistvo predsedničkog kandidata Roberta F. Kenedija 1968. On nije bio u srodstvu sa britanskim scenaristom Volfom Mankovicom, s prezimenom koje slično zvuči.[12]
Smrt uredi
Mankevic je preminuo od srčanog udara 5. februara 1993. godine, šest dana pre svog 84. rođendana. Sahranjen je na groblju Episkopalnog crkvenog dvorišta Svetog Mateja u Bedfordu u Njujorku.[9]
