Idit Vilson

Idit Boling Golt Vilson (engl. Edith Bolling Galt Wilson; Vidvil, 15. oktobar 1872 — Vašington, 28. decembar 1961) bila je druga žena 28. predsednika Sjedinjenih Država Vudroa Vilsona i prva dama Sjedinjenih Američkih Država u periodu od 18. decembra 1915. — 4. marta 1921. godine. Za Vudroa Vilsona se udala dok je bio predsednik Sjedinjenih Država, 1915. godine.

Njen suprug je doživeo moždani udar, 1919. godine u oktobru. Zbog slabog zdravstvenog stanja i nemoći predsednika Vudroa Vilsona, Edit mu je pomogla i počela da se bavi pitanjima države i odlučivala o bitnim, a samo takva, prosleđivala je svom suprugu. Ona je defakto imala Izvršnu vlast do marta 1921. godine, odnosno kraja mandata svog supruga[1][2].

Mladost

Edit je rođena 15. oktobra 1872. godine u Vidvilu u Virdžiniji. Njen otac Vilijam Holkomb Biling je bio sudija, a majka Sara Sali Spirs[3][4][5]. Edit je potomkinja doseljenika koji su došli u Virdžiniju, za vreme britanske kolonizacije Amerika[6]. Prababa od Edit, sa očeve strane bila je sestra Tomasa Džefersona. Bila je sedmo od jedanaestoro dece u porodici[7] i jedna od prvih žena u svetu koje su vozile automobil[8].

Aktivnosti

Prva dama postala je nakon udaje za Vudroa Vilsona, kome je negosporedno pre toga, preminula prva žena. Sa Vilsonom se upoznala u Beloj kući, a venčali su se 18. decembra 1915. godine u njenom domu u Vašingtonu, Idit je na mestu prve dame Sjedinjenih Država zatekao Prvi svetski rat. Često je održavala humanitarne akcije, a jedan republički senator ju je okarakterisao kao prvu damu koja glumi prvog čoveka Sjedinjenih Država[9]. Vodila je Ženski nacionalni demokratski klub, od njegovog otvaranja, 1924. godine[10].

Godine 1961. prisustvovala je inaguraciji predsednika Džona Kenedija[11].

Smrt

Preminula je od zatajenja srca, 28. decembra 1961. godine u 89. godini života[12]. Sahranjena je pored svog supruga u Vašingtonskoj katedrali[13].
