Aleksandar Grotendik
Aleksandar Grotendik (franc. Alexander Grothendieck; 28. mart 1928 — 13. novembar 2014) bio je francuski matematičar, zasnivač moderne algebarske geometrije.[6][7] Njegov istraživački interes je bio i u komutativnoj algebri, homološkoj algebri, teoriji snopova, teoriji kategorija i u funkcionalnoj analizi. Poznat po stavu da objekte treba posmatrati u relaciji sa drugim objektima, a ne pojedinačno (Grotendikov relativni pogled).[6][8] Mnogi ga smatraju najvećim matematičarem dvadesetog veka.[9]

Grotendik je započeo svoju produktivnu i javnu karijeru kao matematičar 1949. Godine 1958. imenovan je za profesora istraživača na Institutu za visoke naučne studije (IHÉS) i tamo je ostao do 1970. godine, kada je, vođen ličnim i političkim uverenjima, napustio nakon spora oko vojnog finansiranja. Dobio je Fildsovu medalju 1966. za napredak u algebarskoj geometriji, homološkoj algebri i K-teoriji.[10] Kasnije je postao profesor na Univerzitetu u Monpeljeu[4], i dok je još uvek radio relevantan matematički rad, povukao se iz matematičke zajednice i posvetio se političkim i religioznim aktivnostima (prvo budizmu, a kasnije, više hrišćanskoj viziji).[11] Godine 1991. preselio se u francusko selo Laser na Pirinejima, gde je živeo povučeno, i dalje neumorno radeći na matematici i svojim filozofskim i religioznim razmišljanjima sve do svoje smrti 2014. godine.[12]
Biografija uredi
Rođen je u Berlinu. Otac mu je bio ukrajinski revolucionar jevrejskog porijekla Aleksandar Saša Šapiro, dok je majka Joana Grotendik bila iz protestantske njemačke porodice, novinarka i takođe zagovornik anarhističkih ideja. 1933. su otac, a uskoro i majka napustili Njemačku iz straha od nacističkog progona i kasnije otišli u Španiju u kojoj je u to vrijeme trajao građanski rat. Aleksandra je u Hamburgu odgajao luteranski sveštenik Vilhelm Hidorn. 1939. se Aleksandar pridružio majci u Francuskoj[13] gdje su u početku živjeli u izbjegličkim kampovima. Drugi svjetski rat su proveli u Šambon sir Linjonu gdje je Aleksandar završio srednju školu.
Matematička karijera uredi
Poslije rata je studirao matematiku u Monpeljeu. Neupoznat sa radom drugih, otkrio je nanovo Lebegovu mjeru. Studije je nastavio u Parizu 1948, ali je na savet Kartana i Vejla prešao u Nansi gdje je 1953. dobio doktorat na polju funkcionalne analize pod mentorstvom Lorena Švarca i Žana Didjona. U to vrijeme bio je jedan od svetski poznatih stručnjaka za topološke vektorske prostore.
1957. je počeo rad u algebarskoj geometriji i homološkoj algebri. Od 1958. je radio na Institutu naprednih studija, gdje je i vodio svoj čuveni seminar. U svom zlatnom periodu ostvario je neke od fundamentalnih rezultata u algebarskoj geometriji,[14] teoriji brojeva, topologiji, teoriji kategorija i kompleksnoj analizi. Svojim čisto algebarskim dokazom Riman-Rohove teoreme postavio je temelje danas poznate K-teorije. 1958. je uveo pojam šeme, koja je postala glavna tema u modernoj algebarskoj geometriji. Šeme su tretirane u poznatom djelu Elementi algebarske geometrije. Uveo je takozvanu etal kohomologiju za šeme, kristalin kohomologiju i algebarsku de-Ram kohomologiju. Osnivač je i teorije toposa. Dao je algebarsku definiciju fundamentalne grupe za šeme, te mnogih drugih struktura bitnih za kategorijsku teoriju Galoa.
Imao je radikalna antimilitarna shvatanja i 1970. napušta naučnu zajednicu kada je saznao da marginalni dio prihoda Instituta naprednih studija dolazi od francuske vojske. Počeo je da se bavi pisanjem o spiritualizmu i polako smanjio istraživanja u matematici. Konačno se povukao 1988. i 1991. prešao na novu adresu u Pirineje,[13] nepoznatu široj zajednici. Umro je u Sent Lizeju 2014. godine.
